About the Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción (UCSC)
The history of our institution of higher learning is divided into two major periods: the dependent university (1971-1991), during which the Talcahuano Regional Campus of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC) was established, and the autonomous university period (1991 onward), which began with the founding of the Catholic University of the Most Holy Conception (UCSC). The first period is characterized by the development of a university that offered educational programs closely linked to the community and a focus on teacher training. The second period is characterized by the establishment of a regional autonomous university that expanded its scope, evolving from a predominantly teaching-oriented institution to a university specializing in specialized areas. This second period is further divided into three sub-periods: the beginning of autonomy (1991-2005), the beginning of the process of increasing complexity (2006-2013), and the development of a complex university (2014 onward). The UCSC is today a traditional, autonomous, public institution of higher learning that provides comprehensive education and delivers excellent services to the Biobío and Ñuble Regions. It is affiliated with the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) and is part of the Chilean Chapter of Catholic Universities, the Association of Regional Universities (AUR), the Organization of Catholic Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean (ODUCAL), and the Network of Non-State Public Universities (G9).
